Mid-Coast Region
For a quintessential Maine feel, head for the Mid-Coast region, which has a fair amount of history associated with it. In Thomaston, you can visit the General Henry Knox Museum, where you can learn about his life as a Revolutionary War general and about his life as a politician at his home in Montpelier. Bed and breakfast lovers will enjoy the historical ones located here in the Mid-Coast Region. Head down Route 201 and enjoy views of the Margaret Chase Smith library, the Redington Museum and the Forks, known for its whitewater rafting. Along the Savannah River, visit historic Port Augusta and Riverwalk Augusta.
Maine Highlands
A vacation destination since the early 1800s, the Maine Highlands region includes the well-known city of Bangor, a uniquely different New England city featuring a duality of nature and big city life. Bangor embraces its history at the Coal Land Transportation Museum and esteems its arts, which is both for sale and on display. Winter activities are big in the highlands, including ice fishing and skiing.
Portland and Casco Bay
Small town and city living come together in the Portland and Casco Bay region, where you can shop in Portland's historic downtown or take a site-seeing cruise on Casco Bay. Aroostook County

Historical museums are also popular in this area.
Fishing in Maine
With its natural setting and many streams and lakes, fishing is a popular sport in Maine. There are many varieties of native fish here including salmon, black bass, square tail and trout.
